Marine Enzyme Polishing Powder
I am often asked what is
the best all-round treatment to keep skin radiant and looking refined. If there
is one product I ensure all my clients incorporate into their daily skincare
regime, it is my Karpati Marine Enzyme Polishing Powder. I personally use this powder on a daily basis,
as does my teenage daughter because it suits all skin types. Even when used on my daughter’s youthful skin
it she has a glow.
My Enzyme Powder has long been a cult favourite among my clientele but I was motivated to update the formulation to create something that wasn’t just highly active but also 100% natural. The end result is the debut instalment of the new generation, Karpati 100% Natural Skincare range.
The powder stimulates skin
renewal while removing all impurities and congestion without making the skin
irritated or sensitive to sunlight, it actively refines skin texture and
radiance without irritation to ensure pores are ready for full hydration.
Designed for daily use, my
celebrity favourite product provides a skin resurfacing action via gentle and
selective decongestion to eliminate excess coenocytes, providing skin with more
clarity and even tone.
Its petrol chemical free
formulation comprises all natural ingredients including rice flour that won't
clog pores; Marine Detoxifying Algae; Protease® Enzyme which acts as a
decongestant; Grapefruit Extract for purifying; and Silica to boost the skin’s
ability to retain moisture.
Specially formulated to exfoliate
damaged cells, decongest pores clogged from creams and SPF build up, makeup
residue and perspiration, the 100% Natural Marine Enzyme Polishing Powder forms
a creamy paste, when added with water, that can be worked into the skin before
rinsing.
Suitable for all skin
types including the most delicate and sensitive skins such as those with
rosacea or who cannot tolerate granules or acids, the powder exfoliates without
irritation and visibly removes blemishes and brightens the skin.
The Karpati Marine Enzyme Polishing Powder is available
to purchase via our online store

All About Serums
WHAT A SERUM ACTUALLY DOES AND WHY YOUR
SKIN NEEDS ONE
It is a
beauty misconception that serums are just a more expensive form of skin
moisturiser. Yes, the price is more per ounce than your average skin care
product, but that is because you’re getting more concentrated ingredients and
deeper penetrating effects.
Get the low-down on why serums are worth every
penny in my interview with Leigh Campbell from The Huffington Post Australia.
What is the role/purpose of a serum, and how do
they differ from a moisturiser?
Serums are
primarily created to help highly active ingredients penetrate into the deeper
layers of the skin. Usually water based which is more easily absorbed for
deeper penetration, and also sometimes oil based, they are traditionally more
highly concentrated than moisturisers and are generally segmented with a
results driven, repairing purpose such as hydrating or brightening.
At which step is it applied in my skincare
routine, and how should it be applied?
Serums should be
applied to freshly cleansed skin either before, with or as a moisturiser, depending
on the requirement. I always recommend cleansing the skin with an enzyme-based
cleanser to remove any grease or residue prior to applying the serum, as
water-based serums cannot pass through sweat and grease and won’t penetrate
well.
My Karpati 100% Natural Marine Enzyme PolishingPowder is perfect as it acts as an exfoliator and cleanser in one to provide a
skin resurfacing action to eliminate excess coenocytes, providing clarity and
even tone. It also contains silica to boost the skins ability to retain
moisture and prevent further dehydration.
If applying an
oil-based serum, it is best mixed with a cream as they don’t penetrate well on
their own as their molecules are too large to reach deep into the skin.
Depending on your
skin type and the time of year, such as summer, sometimes applying a hydrating
serum can be enough and can then be followed with an SPF but in cooler months
or when you’re using multiple serums with multiple purposes, you may follow
this with a moisturizer and then an SPF.
What are the different skincare concerns serum
can help treat, and how?
Serums have
much higher percentages of actives than creams and are therefore very effective
at treating targeted skin concerns as quickly as possible including redness,
dehydration, wrinkles and excess oil production. Skin issues and concerns
generally stem from the deeper layers of the skin and this is where the serums
can get to because they’re water-based penetrating abilities (as opposed to
oils found in creams which sit on the more topical layers of the skin).
Can I use more than one serum?
Absolutely!
You can use more than one serum as they are always so light in texture and are
also targeting different concerns. You can also replace your cream with a hydrating serum in your skincare routine as
you never ever get enough hydration and serums are more effective at delivering
this.
What are some of the key/active ingredients
commonly found in serums?
Some of my
favourite ingredients found in serums include:
-
Hyaluronic Acid, the primary component in the dermis that prevents skin dehydration
through its ability to retain up to 1,000 times its weight in water within the
intercellular matrix. Essential in the regeneration of the epidermis,
Hyaluronic Acid plays a vital role in skin density and tone while retaining a
natural state inside skin through various molecular weights.
-
Collagen, one of the main components of the skin
and is the key protein in the human body. Helping to keep the skin tissue
toned, Collagen is known for its soothing effect and anti-aging action.
Providing an intense hydrating effect, Collagen is also an excellent cellular
regenerator and repairer.
-
Vitamin C, naturally present in the skin and known
for its brightening action, it reduces the production of skin pigments and
therefore helps to keen the skin even and radiant. Energising and strengthening
skin, Vitamin C’s anti-free radical power protects skin from external
aggression.

The In's and Outs of Extractions
As you all know, facial extractions are a speciality here at Karpati Medispa. It is a very European regimen and something you should never tackle yourself. It may look easy to squeeze an unwanted spot but you can permanently scar the skin tissue.
A deep pore cleaning should be as common as having a hair cut, brushing your teeth or taking a shower, that is, a good deep clean facial should be something that you incorporate into your regular grooming routine.
If you have skin that is prone to acne and blackheads, you need to have a professional deep clean facial with extractions on a regular basis.
Extractions cannot be done unless the skin has been prepared first. There are preparation steps to extractions that are just as important, if not more so. First the skin needs to be steamed and cleansed with a gentle milk cleanser to remove superficial dirt, grease and make up. Then, still under steam, begin the deep cleaning with an enzyme powder to really pick up the excess dirt, oil and grime.
Once the skin is clean and the pores have been steamed, the skin is ready for extractions.
There are different techniques for extractions depending on the origin of the acne which is being extracted.
Just like your hair can grow in different directions, so can the 'root' of acne, thus it is vital to squeeze from the right direction to get the root out. Inflammation will remain until the root is removed. If it isn't removed properly, the inflammation / pimple will remain and be more painful and with more bacteria. Sometimes removing the root can be tricky and require a little 'finger' skills such as as twist or a shake to remove it fully - like I said, it is a precise technique that requires knowledge and training, so best leave it to the professionals.
Once the extractions are completed, the skin needs to be disinfected and mask applied as the pores need to close. Running over the skin with a High Frequency device is also recommended to maintain sterility. A tinted medicated cover up is highly recommended as serves the functions of keeping the area sterile and protect from the UV rays which can cause permanent pigmented marks
Receiving regular facials with extractions will help maintain healthy clean skin. If that nasty pimple bothers you to a point where you are tempted to squeeze, STOP.
DON'T.
That's what we're here for.

Your Skin & Sugar
- Sugar attacks collagen. It basically DESTROYS the protein that maintains skin elasticity. This makes the skin age faster, more prone to wrinkles and keeps my fractional laser machine working overtime to push healthy collagen to the epidermal layers.
- Sugar ranks high on the acidity scale. This means there is a direct link between sugar and inflammation. If you have acne prone skin, excess sugar in your diet means what would have been subtle acne will be more likely be more inflamed, noticeable and unmanageable.
- A high sugar diet causes the body to develop a resistance to insulin. This can eventually lead to diabetes. It can also lead to excess hair growth on the face and neck.
- A high rate of insulin resistance is also linked to acne – specifically, hormonal acne. When the body is resisting insulin, the body needs to try to produce more to compensate. Whilst this is happening, it simultaneously produces hormones. Hormones increase sebum (oil) production. Add that with the inflammation sugar causes an you’ve created the perfect conditions for large, sore, inflamed acne.
When I assess
someone’s skin I can usually tell straight away if a high sugar diet has caused
any of the problems.
Remember, healthy skin starts from the inside.

Vanuatu, My Holiday Destination
My daughter is growing up so fast so I cherish every moment I have with her.
Vanuatu brings me great joy to share with her. She's always been a water baby and absolutely loves swimming and splashing about. She loves climbing the rocks to the cascades and jumping off into the clear water.

My daughter taking a plunge |
We found a lagoon with a conveniently placed rope she used to swing off into the water.
Her favourite activity is in Hideaway Island where you can post a letter underwater! Sometimes I think if they had a Westfields underwater, she'd be the first to grab her snorkel and go shopping!
What I love about Vanuatu is the fresh food markets, the clean salty water and the people we meet.
My daughter has made long lasting life friendships with people she met on the Island and they keep in touch and catch up every year.
I find Vanuatu to be the perfect Holiday Destination - its close enough to call my second home, yet far enough to feel like you're truly away.
What's your favourite place to Holiday?
